Abstract
385,745. Rotary-impeller pumps. SPOOR, W. L. J., 23, Olympiaplein, Amsterdam. Dec. 30, 1931, No. 35979. Convention date, Jan. 12. [Class 110 (i).] The casing of a pump with a rotary impeller and auxiliary circulating liquid is provided wth lateral guide channels of rounded cross-section for such liquid. Fig. 6 shows the inside of one casing half and a portion of the impeller. In this form the lateral guide channel 4<4> for the auxiliary liquid is of general triangular crosssection with rounded corners, the cross-sectional areas 12, 13, 14 diminishing towards the outlet end 5 as shown in the sections off-set on the lines 8-9, 8-10, 8-11 ; the line 15 of centres of such sections extends radially outwards as the outlet 5 is approached. The auxiliary liquid has a general helical flow the projection of which is shown by the dotted line 7<3> in Fig. 5. With a lateral channel 4<2> of semi-circular form as shown in Fig. 4, the flow projection 7<2> is circular. The helical flow may be stabilized by providing in the lateral channel a core 16 with helical vanes 17 of a pitch decreasing towards the outlet, Fig. 7.
