Abstract

383,416. Centrifugal gas cleaners. HOWDEN & CO., Ltd., J. and HOWDEN, W. H., 195, Scotland Street, Glasgow. Nov. 16, 1931, No. 31641. [Class 23.] A centrifugal separator for removing dust from gases has a scroll or spiral intake casing with a scroll plate 1, Fig. 1, provided with spaced groups 5 of apertures through which the dust is discharged. The dust collector may be a hopper 2 as shown, or may be an annular chamber round the plate 1. The separator is used in conjunction with a fan of the type described in Specification 295,018, [Class 110 (i), Centrifugal and screw fans &c.], and the collector 2 is connected by a pipe 7 to the fan intake. Each group 5 consists of a number of apertures 12, Fig. 4, which may be countersunk in the plate 1 ; or they may be provided in renewable plates 13, Fig. 5, fitted to be flush with the interior surface of the plate 1. The apertures 12 may be circular, triangular or polygonal.
