Abstract

381,727. Rotary engines. HAPKINS, D. N., 109, South Carondelet Street, Los Angeles, U.S.A. Oct. 17, 1931, No. 28910. [Class 110 (ii).] In an internal-combustion engine of the type illustrated two abutments 39, 40 are formed in the casing liner 60, and during the suction stroke alternate vanes 271 are held in the retracted position so that the amount of fuel contained in 90‹ of the working chamber is compressed into the combustion chamber 56 and one of the pockets 55 scooped out of the rotor R. The vanes 27, 27<1> have guide-pins 27c surrounded by compression springs 29, and legs 27b which in the vanes 27<1> are fitted with rollers 47 which co-operate with cam tracks 50 extending over the arc of 180‹ covering the suction stroke. L-shaped packing-bars 33 fit in two slots in each vane, one of each bearing against a side wall of the working chamber. Sinusoidal springs 34 are fitted under the bars 33. The inlet port 41 extends to a point 41a midway between the abutment 40 and the midsuction stroke point 42. The engine is lubricated by means of a hollow shaft having radial holes communicating with holes 26 in the rotor. The number of vanes may vary.
