Movable-abutment type; discharge and suction passages for pumps.-A central fixed hollow projection f extends completely across the cylinder a to act as a seating for the pistons d and rotary abutments c and also serves as the inlet for suction fluid for pumps or motive fluid for engines. The pistons d are carried by sleeves e rotatably mounted towards and around the ends of the projection f, and the sleeves and abutments are geared together. Each abutment rotates in a chamber b and around a spindle which projects from one cover plate and is cut away at s to receive the pistons. Each abutment may have a cavity t and port t<1> to form a compression chamber and a sparking-plug may be mounted at v. The projection f has an inlet port o and may have an inner tube m leading to an exhaust port p. There may be more than two pistons, and one or more abutments, and the contacting surfaces may be provided with packings, such as spring-pressed strips. In the case of engines, forced injection of fuel may also be provided for by a port opposite the plug v.
