Abstract

Coking coal is obtained from non-coking or feebly coking coal by treatment with hydrogen or gases containing hydrogen at between 350 DEG and 420 DEG C. and under a pressure not exceeding 50 atmospheres, no substantial amount of liquid products being obtained. A catalyst may be employed, which comprises a metal of the sixth group of the periodic system, or tin, or compounds of these metals, for example stannous oxalate. Specification 301,720, [Class 32, Distilling &c.], is referred to.
