Abstract

322,194. Imperial Chemical Industries, Ltd., and Slade, R. E. July 31, 1928. Composition fuel briquettes are made with a binder consisting of the pitch-like product obtained by an incomplete hydrogenation of a paste of coal and oil, i.e. a treatment in which the coal takes up only 2-3 per cent of its weight of hydrogen. The process may be effected at 410‹ C. and a pressure of 200 atmospheres, or if normal temperature, e.g. about 480‹ C., be employed the time of exposure is curtailed. Friable semi-coke may be briquetted in this way. Specification 301,720 is referred to.
