379,046. Knitting-machines. WILDMAN MFC. CO., Norristown, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Howie, K. ; Norristown, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) July 3, 1931, No. 19266. Convention date, May 8. [Class 74 (ii).] A circular rib machine is provided with means for operating a needle or needles to clamp an elastic thread between the back of the needle or needles and a relatively fixed surface of the machine so that the elastic thread can be embraced by the cylinder and dial loops. As described in connection with a stationary needle cylinder machine a cam 13 formed integrally with the guide arm 5 for the elastic yarn 3 deflects the cylinder needles outwardly. The needles thereafter snap back into normal position and clamp the elastic yarn against the edge of the needle dial 2. The dial needles are preferably advanced to overlie the elastic yarn at the point of its introduction into the fabric. The feeding of the elastic yarn occurs at a position remote from the feeding point of the ordinary body yarn, and means are provided for automatically applying tension to the elastic yarn when it is being laid in the courses and for automatically relieving the tension when the yarn is withdrawn. Cutting and trapping devices for the elastic yarn may be provided.
