Abstract

376,100. Attaching knobs to spindles. CARTWRIGHT, R., CARTWRIGHT. L. B., and CARTWRIGHT, H. R., 17, Fleet Street, Birmingham. Sept. 28, 1931, No. 26921. [Class 44.] A knob b is attached to a lock &c. spindle a by means of a spring tongue f engaging ratchet teeth g on the spindle which is provided with a slot l through which, and through an aperture m in the knob, a wire or tool may be introduced to release the knob by directly pressing the tongue out of engagement. The portion o at the end of the spindle is left plain and the knob is withdrawn until the tongue rests on this portion before the wire &c. is withdrawn. The tongue f is formed from one side of a square sleeve d fitting the spindle, the other side being apertured at k or cut away to allow the wire &c. to enter the slot. The sleeve has end flanges e retained in a recess in the end of the knob by a retaining member j secured to the knob in known manner.
