Abstract

363,039. Vehicle suspension systems ; indiarubber springs. ADAMS PATENT 'SUSPENSION CO., Ltd., Walsingham House, Seething Lane, London, and MACBETH, C., 67, Norwich Union Chambers, Congreve Street, Birmingham. Oct. 16, 1930, No. 30964. [Classes 108 (ii) and 108 (iii).] A springing or shock-absorbing device includes a ring or annular block a of rubber or like resilient material sandwiched between a pair of metal elements b<1>, b2 and permanently secured thereto on its opposite faces c<1>, c2 by vulcanizing or similar methods, the whole being mounted so as to resist relative angular or rotational movement. In one form, as applied to a vehicle-suspension system, the elements b<1>, b2 are provided with lugs d2, d<1> which engage recesses in a mounting e fixed to the vehicle axle and in a housing f, g respectively. Each housing is formed of two sheet-metal pressings f<1>, f<2> which are bolted together, one of the bolts f<4> being utilized for assembly of the mounting e and the resilient devices. A silentbloc bearing is interposed between the bolt f<4> and the mounting e. The forward end of the housing f is articulated to the vehicle frame by a spherical or other rubber block k vulcanized or permanently secured to a busk k<1> carried on a pin k<2> on the frame. The rear end of the housing g is similarly mounted on a pin carried by the shackle. The plates b<1>, b2 may be coned or concave and may be provided with ribbed faces to facilitate connection with the resilient elements and they may be connected with the moving parts by radial keys, bolts, screws or any mechanical means. Specification 236,243, [Class 108 (iii), Springs &c.], is referred to.
