Convention date, June 2. [Class 135.] Wedging or jamming.-A rotary plug valve, of the type having an automatic easing arrangement operable in advance of the turning movement of the plug, has' a rotary operating head 28 having a non-circular inner end 38 engaging a similar recess in the small end of the plug 13 ; the head 28 carries an operating lever 41, pivoted at 50, and moving between lateral abutments 57 with lost-motion, whereby on manipulating the lever the cam-like lower concave surface 53 of a screw 51 applies thrust to a rigid member or rod 46 and jacks the plug 13 from its seating before the plug is turned. The plug is urged resiliently towards the operating bead by compressed asbestos fibre &c. 24 operating through a diaphragm 18, thrust member 19, and ball 22. The operating lever is biased to a mid-position by springs interposed between the lever and the lateral abutments.
