Abstract

Swivelling joints.- Valves or swivel joints of the conical plug type comprise a spring-like member c, Fig. 4, which straddles the casing b and bears at one end on the plug or cone and at the other end abuts coaxially on the extremity of the casing. In this arrangement the member c has a loop or eye surrounding the neck of the plug, but in a valve or cock the loop may engage round the spindle. In other arrangements the member c is disposed in a slot in the spindle, or is duplicated, as shown in Fig. 14, and in these forms the member c is adapted for use as the handle for turning the plug. Fig. 2 shows an arrangement in which the straddling member or handle comprises upper and lower bars d, e, the end pressure on the plug being supplied by a spring c.
