Abstract

356,785. Vaporizers. PETITPAS, E. D., Clery-les-Andelys, Eure, France. May 12, 1930, No. 14555. Convention date, Jan. 8. [Class 7 (iii).] In a vaporizer for heavy oils the volume of the vaporizing chamber is made equal to the cylinder capacity of the engine. A condensing trap is provided in the induction pipe to collect unvaporized fuel. As applied to stationary engines the heavy oil mixture from a carburetter enters a vaporizing chamber 5 through a port 6<1> and leaves through a port 7<1>. Exhaust gases enter at 3 a pipe 4, closed at one end, which traverses the chamber 5. Pipes 15 arranged radially extend through the pipe 5 and allow the exhaust to escape to a chamber 1 and an outlet 14 through orifices 16. At starting, when a petrol carburetter is used, a valve 12 closes the pipe 4 to prevent the exhaust gases from entering the chamber. A condensing trap 9, Fig. 5, includes a baffle 18 and drainage means, and is attached to the port 7<1>, Fig. 3, leading to the intake manifold. A tube 19 allows deposits to be drained from the vaporizing chamber into the trap 9. A single carburetter is used for both fuels. As applied to motor-car engines two carburetters 25, 26, Fig. 6, for petrol and heavy oil respectively and a rotary valve 27 are used, and the mixture from the petrol carburetter does not pass through the vaporizer. The condensate trap is placed between the valve 27 and the engine. The petrol and heavy oil carburetters are simultaneously controlled by a rod 34 connecting the controls 33, 35, the latter being connected to the governor of the engine by a rod 38.
