356,311. Linear-dimension gauges. SOC. ANON. DES ETABLISSEMENTS REPUSSEAU ET CIE, 75, Rue Danton, Levallois-Perret, Seine, France. June 12, 1930, No. 18021. Convention date, Aug. 28, 1929. [Class 106 (ii).] Comprises a construction of limit - gauging apparatus in which electric contacts are made or broken so that a visual or audible signal is given, for instance, a lamp is lit for workpieces within the limits set, but fails to light up when the workpiece is too big or too small. A stand from which a column 1 rises is provided with a surface-plate to receive the specimen, while a lateral extension supports the gauging apparatus proper. The extension head 75 is bored to receive a slide block 3 in which is mounted a feeler 7. The block 3 and head 75 are provided with radial holes in which a pin 10 is adapted to fit when the holes register. A stop pin 11 engages a groove 33 in the block 3 and limits upward movement thereof. The chuck 8 is adapted to receive the feeler 7 to the block 3. The top part of the slide block is provided with guide screws 12 passing through eyes 80 in the fork 15 of a lever 16 pivoted on a bracket 27 and adapted to be rocked against the influence of a spring 22 by a pedal connected by a link to the end 20 of the lever. A stop 26 ensures a constant stroke for the lever 16. A contact 32 carried by the lever is adapted to engage an insulated contact 81 carried by a split boss 4 clamped by a screw 9 and carrying an adjustment screw 6 which bears on a knife edge on the short arm of a lever 44 mounted on a pivot 74 and connected by links 46 to a lever 45 the end of which moves over a scale. The latter carries on the rear face a contact 59 moving over a contact 54 of triangular shape on a slide 53 which may be adjusted by a micrometer screw 69. In use, a standard piece is placed on the surface-plate, the chuck 8 is loosened and the feeler 7 made to contact with the workpiece. At this time, the block 3 is drawn up by the fork and the base of the groove 33 bears against the stop 11. The pedal is now depressed until the centering-pin 10 can be introduced, when the feeler 7 bears on the work with the predetermined pressure and the block 3 occupies a mean position. The feeler 7 is now locked to the slide and the pointer 88 brought to zero, the pin 10 being then withdrawn. The slide 53 is next moved until the right tolerance is indicated.
