Abstract

555,629. Gauging apparatus. CORBIDGE, V. June 23, 1942, Nos. 8581/42 and 3626/43. [Class 106 (ii)] In a screw-thread measuring device in which the measuring position is located between diametrically disposed anvils on a micrometer screw and dial indicator respectively, the anvil or contact point on the micrometer screw is a cone having a taper angle the same as, or slightly less than. the angle between adjacent flanks of the thread of the test piece and the anvil on the plunger of the dial gauge comprises a V-contact having the same taper angle, or comprises a portion of a screw-thread identical with that of the test piece. The device as shown in Fig. 1 comprises a base having fixed centres 14 for carrying the test piece 13 and supports a longitudinally movable table 12. A transversely movable carriage 8 biased by a spring 9 is arranged on the table and is provided with pillars to support a micrometer 1 and dial indicator 15. The micrometer, which is pivoted on centre points 4 in a block 5, is provided with an interchangeable anvil 7 which can swing between the flanks of the thread of the test piece. The dial indicator has an anvil 16 which is also detachable and replaceable and may be V-shaped as shown or may comprise a portion of a screw thread identical with that of the test piece.
