Abstract

355,767. Machine guns. BOUSSEL, L. A., 140, Boulevard de Versailles, St - Cloud, Seine-et-Oise, France. Feb. 21, 1930, No. 5851. Convention date, Feb. 22, 1929. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 92 (ii).] An aircraft machine gun is provided with a metal link cartridge belt 2, Fig. 16, which is propelled from a fixed container through the feed-box x by a spring-actuated drum 45 the springs 55 of which are wound by the gas piston 41. The links of the belt are capable of swivelling relatively toone another about axes perpendicular to the length of the cartridges so that, as the cartridges pass through a cammed channel 35, Fig. 13, they are aligned with the feed-box in all positions of training of the gun. Fig. 2 shows a metal-link belt with swivels 13, the cartridges themselves serving to connect the links 12, 14. Fig. 7 shows a chain belt with the links 17 surrounding the links 18. Fig. 10 shows swivels fitted with cams 29 and springs 30 which reduce shock and render the cammed channel 35 unnecessary. The Specification states that the weight of the belt depending from the spring drum causes an automatic alignment of the cartridges with the feed-box. Fig. 15 shows the springs 55 arranged in battery form. They may either be rewound by hand-gear 62 or by ratchets through gearing 43, 44, 45 rotated by a pin on the gun engaging a helical groove in the gas piston. Fig. 30 shows means for using the tapped gases following the projectile for charging a chamber 90 the pressure from which is released by a button 96 to actuate the gas piston for hand loading. For the same purpose, the spring drum 45 may be released-by a trigger device operated by the gunner, the gearing 43, 44, 45 being reversed to actuate the gas piston.
