355,099. Water gas generators. HUMPHREYS & GLASGOW, Ltd., Humglas House, Carlisle Place, London.-(Assignees of Janeway, P. W. ; Media, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) Oct. 20, 1930, No. 31396. Convention date, Nov. 21, 1929. [Class 55 (i).] In the manufacture of carburetted water gas, wherein, during the first part of the " blow," the heat of the blast gases is stored in a recuperative vessel by combustion with secondary air, during the latter half of the " blow " oil is simultaneously introduced into the top of the fuel bed, the resulting gases passing unburned to storage to be mixed with the products of the " run " in the next step. Oil may also be introduced during the " run." The fuel bed 5 is blasted with air supplied at inlet 6, the gases being burnt in the carburetter and superheater with air supplied at 14 before passing to the atmosphere. Admission of secondary air is then discontinued and the gases passed through connection 19 to the wash box 4, crude oil being simultaneously sprayed on to the fuel bed through the spray 13. Steam may be admitted through inlet 8. An up-run is now made by steam admitted through inlet 7 and if necessary further oil may be injected through 13. The mixed gases are fixed in the carburetter and pass to storage. The cycle may be completed by a down-run, steam being admitted at inlet 9 and the gases passing off through connection 10.
