[Class 100 (iv).] Web feeding and guiding arrangements. - In a flat-platen typewriter or like machine, web-tensioning means movable in a frame at the rear of the platen comprises spring-retracted slides carrying webguides which have gripping-plates co-operating with adjacent web-guides and are rocked to release the webs when the slides are moved forwards. The arrangement shown in Figs. 3, 5 and 6 comprises a frame 14 detachably mounted at the rear of the platen frame 1 and having hollow side members 14a. Web-guides 15 provided with plates 15a pass through slots 16 in the side members and are journalled in slides 17 which are mounted on studs 25 on the side members and are connected to springs 24. The web-guides have arms 15b, 15c entering slots 21a in slides 21 mounted on studs 26 on the side members. The arms 15b are connected to springs 22 which normally maintain the plates 15a in contact with adjacent web-guides. The webs 31 are clamped lightly between the webguides and plates and are tensioned by means of the springs 24. A rod 18 engaging slots 17a in the slides 17 is connected by a chain 19 to the pedal for depressing the platen B and raising the clamping-bar 12b. On depression of the pedal, the webs are released from the platen and clamping- bar, the slides 17 are moved forwards, and when the slides 21 are arrested by the studs 29, the arms 15b, 15c rock the web-guides, and the plates 15a. are raised. The webs are then pulled forwards and re-engaged with hooks 3 and the pedal is released to permit the guide-rods and platen to tension and clamp the webs. The printed forms are torn off by means of the clamping-bar. The slides 17 can be retained in forward position by engagement of the rod 18 with recesses 16a in the slots 16.
