Abstract
381,326. Typewriters &c. WADE, H., 111, Hatton Garden, London.-(United Autographic Register Co. ; 5000, So. California Avenue, Chicago, U.S.A.) Oct. 1, 1931, No. 27387. [Class 100 (iv).] Web-feeding and guiding arrangements.- In duplicating-machines in which expansible register pins are disposed near the front end of the platen for registering superposed stationery forms, treadle-operated means are provided for registering and tensioning the forms and for drawing them backwards after erasure, and also for actuating the platen. The typewriter C, Fig. 1, runs on the side members A<2> of the platen frame. The platen B can be depressed by the system of levers 13 operated by a rod 14 and treadle 15. A paper-clamping device comprises an end cross-bar 12 bolted to the frame and a bar 20 mounted on the lever 19 which is part of the system 13. A split pin is formed by projections 26a, 27a on members 26, 27, the member 26 being fixed to the cross-bar 12, while the member 27 slides on it and is drawn towards the member 26 by springs 30. Rollers 31, mounted on the member 27, run on cam edges 19a mounted on the lever 19, so that, as the clamping-bar 20 is raised, the pin contracts. The tensioning-device comprises a bar 48 and a clamping-member 50, mounted on plates 39, Fig. 8, and normally retracted by springs 47. The plates 39 are drawn forward by the operation of the treadle, acting through levers 46, 44, and the clamping-member 50 is simultaneously raised by the action of a cam 51 and roller 52. The paper web H<1> passes over a roller 66, between guide plates 65, and over a roller 55 to the bar 48 and the platen. Bearings 55a of the roller 55 slide in J-shaped slots 35b in the plates 35 and in the inactive position lie in the lower ends of the slots. Cam plates 60 slidably mounted on the side plates and normally drawn forward by springs 62, can be urged backwards by moving the typewriter to the rear end of the frame when it engages projections 60d on the plates 60 ; the roller 55 is thereby raised by the cam edge 60c out of the lower part of the slot 35b and is then drawn back by springs 56, thus engaging and drawing backwards a loop of the paper webs H. By depressing the treadle, bars 20, 50 are raised and the paper may be lifted off the pins, drawn forward, and a new set of register holes placed over the pins. When the treadle is released the pins expand, thus aligning the webs, the clamping-bar 20 descends, and the web is then tensioned by the descent of the bar 50 and the rearward motion of the plates 39 ; or the web may be drawn back after erasure by actuating the cam plates 60.
