[Class 82 (ii).] An elutriator for washing sand etc. comprises an elongated funnel-shaped vessel a to one end of which the sludge is fed through a gulley d. The water and light material overflow at f, the sand sinking through an upward current of washing water introduced at c to a discharge outlet b leading to a shoot r. The bottom plate g of the vessel decreases in width from the sludge inlet to the sand discharge outlet, the latter being formed in a wall e which is steeper than the plate g and which forms at the top of the vessel a water overflow which is considerably wider than the inlet end of the vessel. Specification 14014/14, [Class 82 (ii), Washing granular &c.], is referred to.
