Abstract
463,503. Washing granular materials. STEVENS, A. H. (Hardinge Co., Inc.) Feb. 7, 1936, No. 3832. [Class 82 (ii)] A classifier comprises a rotatable drum 11, Fig. 1, and a helical trough fixed to the interior thereof which increases in depth and decreases in pitch from one end of the drum to the other. The trough is formed by a band which may comprise a series of plates secured to or integral with the drum wall. The material enters at 16 and is met by water entering at 33 and passing from one part of the trough to another in the form of cascades ; fines are discharged at 19 and the oversize material at 31, shoots 30, 32 being provided. The trough-walls towards the end of the drum are slotted at 28 for de-watering the material ; the depth and height of the slots may be varied by the use of apertured plates 34, Fig. 5, portions 38 of which may be bent away from the wall. The oversize material may be received in a head, Fig. 7, where it is lifted in buckets 41 and transferred to a trough 42 and a shoot 44. The water-pipe 33 may project into the head or into the drum.
