Abstract

350,509. Presses for separating liquids from solids. BINNIE, R. T., 21, Eskdale Street, Crosshill, Glasgow, and MILLER, W., 21, St. Andrew's Square, Edinburgh. Feb. 12, 1930, No. 4685. [Class 46.] A press comprises endless members 14, 17 having suitable filtering surfaces, the inner one 14 of which passes round guide rollers 13 bearing against a central roller 16, and the outer one 17 passes round intermediate rollers 18b and terminal rollers 18a, 18c. The inner member 14 is driven by the roller 16 which is connected to a driving shaft and the outer member is driven by the frictional engagement between the members and the solids. The terminal rollers 18a, 18c are forced by springs or hydraulic means in a direction to tension the outer member and the pressure exerted can be adjusted. Helical grooves are formed in all the rollers to allow the liquid to flow away. Scrapers 80, 81 and guide plates 82, 83 are provided. The inner rollers 13 and outer rollers 18a, 18b, 18c may be arranged in radial alignment.
