Abstract
347,363. Load-handling appliances ; lifting-dogs &c. BLUNT, T., White House, Armthorpe, near Doncaster. Feb. 20, 1930, No. 5625. [Classes 78 (iii) and 78 (iv).] A tool for withdrawing props in mines comprises a pair of levers pivotally connected intermediate of their ends, and provided with hooked extremities adapted to grip or engage the prop when the other ends of the levers are brought into alignment. Fig. 1 shows a tool comprising levers 1, 2, pivotally connected at 3 and provided with jaws 5, 6 adapted to grip a mine prop 4 of H-section. A shackle 9 connected to the hauling chain is provided with a pin 10 which works in a closed slot 11 and a bayonet slot 12 in the ends of the levers 1 and 2 respectively, the levers thus being looked in the closed position when tension is put on the chain. In an alternative form, the jaws are shaped to grip props of circular section, and the slot 11 is arranged at an angle with the longitudinal part of the slot 12 so that tension on the chain causes a positive pressure to be put on the jaws.
