Lever and linkage load-handling appliances.- A gripping device for withdrawing pit props consists of two jaws a, b which are hinged together at their ends c and carry links pivoted to their other ends, one link e being shorter than the other d and adapted to be secured (for example by a removable pin f) to the longer link which is attached to the hauling rope. In order to locate the device on the prop the jaws are provided with holes i to receive a pin passing through a hole in the prop.
