Abstract
<PICT:0346635/III/1> <PICT:0346635/III/2> An apparatus for the electrical precipitation of particles from gases comprises two precipitating chambers 2 and 3 containing electrodes 4 and interconnected by a gas flue 6 in the form of a horizontal niche. The gases flow in the direction shown in Fig. 1, without passing through the collecting chamber 10, situated below the electrode chambers. The portion of the electrodes 4 immediately above the space 6 is boxed in by strips 8 to prevent material collecting inside the electrodes from falling into space 6, the gases passing from one precipitating chamber to the other through slots 9. As a further precaution, the sides 12 of the flue 6 may project down into the collecting chamber 10. Uniform distribution of the gases before passing into chamber 3 is attained by baffles or guide-vanes 11. Plane plates or screens may be used as collecting electrodes, in which case the top of the flue 6, which may be arched instead of gable-shaped, may consist of slotted plates to allow passage of the gas from chamber 2 to chamber 3.
