Abstract

321,869. Lodge-Cottrell, Ltd., (Metallges. Akt.-Ges.). Dec. 27, 1928. Gases, treating electrically.-A collecting electrode for the electrical precipitation of suspended particles from gaseous fluids has a surface which is divided into a number of independently mounted strips which form slots between them and which may be independently jarred or shaken to effect the precipitation. The strips 4, Fig. 1, are suspended by hooks 2 and lugs 3 in transverse superimposed rows on both sides of an upright member 1. The strips are bent as shown with spaces 5 formed between the rows. The strips 4 are caused to knock against the carrier 1 by turning a shaft 6 provided with arms 7 engaging channel members on the strips. In a modification, the strips are bent so that their centres of gravity lie outside their supports, and are shaken successively at their lower and upper ends on rotating an armed shaft provided for the purpose. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 5, the strips 4 are suspended eccentrically by a support 11. A rod 13 has projections which loosely engage holes in the plates, and, upon the rod being hammered upon rotating the hammer shaft 16, the projections cause the strips to oscillate slightly about their supports. In a modification of this arrangement, the strips are eccentrically suspended from one end, and engage stops on a horizontal rod at the other end.
