Abstract

344,038. Door springs and checks. WEBBERLEY, D. J., 33, Lowther Hill, Forest Hill, and ADAMS & SON, Ltd., J., 105, Union Street, Southwark, both in London. Nov. 28, 1929, No. 36572. [Class 65 (i).] In a spring-closing apparatus for swinging doors, the door pivot D, Fig. 1, carries a cam C on the underside of which is mounted a roller f<1>. Two claws G. H, pivoted at J, are pressed into engagement with the roller f<1> by adjustable springs K, K<1> resisting any turning of the door pivot D in either direction from its closed position. In the closed position, the claws come against stops k, and their ends overlap, as shown. The check consists of a piston N working in a cylinder M, the piston-rod being slotted at n<3> to slide on the pin J and carrying a roller n4 in engagement with the cam C. When the door is opened, compressing the spring K or K<1>, the piston-rod is forced to follow the cam C by a spring P, and oil is drawn from the box into the cylinder M through passages, controlled by ball valves, in the piston N. When the door closes under the action of the compressed spring, the piston is forced in, and the liquid in the cylinder is forced through a passage controlled by a screw valve m2 to regulate the resistance. In a modification, Fig. 8, the piston-rod N is linked to a lever T, pivoted to the side of the box and carrying the roller n<4>.
