Abstract
341,742. Exhaust silencers. ROTH, E., Wila T÷sstal, Zurich, Switzerland. Feb. 10, 1930, No. 4489. Convention date, Feb. 15, 1929. [Class 7 (ii).] The exhaust impinges in succession upon two vane wheels rigidly fixed to the same shaft, and mounted side by side in separate chambers connected by a tortuous passage. Exhaust gases entering at 1 impinge on a vane wheel 3, then flow in succession through chambers 2, 21, aperture 4, chambers 5, 6, impinge on vane wheel 10 in chamber 8 and then flow through chamber 12 and apertures 13 to fishtail outlet 14. The wheel 10 is mounted on the same shaft 15 as the wheel 3. A disc 9 secured to the supporting bolt 26 of shaft 15, serves to distribute the gases to the wheel 10. The shaft 15 may be hollow to permit of the passage of cooling air; or liquid cooling may be adopted. The casing may be divided approximately at its centre, the shaft 15 being supported in an intermediate wall with the wheels at its ends.
