Abstract
340,753. Screw propellers. TUTIN, J., 26, Fenchurch Street, London. Dec. 17, 1929, No. 38575. [Class 114.] In propeller installations where the propeller is movable about a vertical axis for steering the propeller support and carries behind the propeller a fin or plate which is shaped to act as a counter-propeller, the screw propeller 1 is supported on a casing 2 and adapted to be turned about an axis x, y and at its after end is secured by rivets 11, 12 a plate or fin the upper and lower portions 4, 5 of which are bent oppositely towards points 14, 15. In one modification the fin is supported on a horizontal fore and aft hinge pin. In another modification the fin is supported on a vertical axis and in a further modification is secured at the bottom to a propeller skeg and at its upper end to a band encircling the propeller support. The fin may have a central enlargement in the form of a cavity adapted to receive the nut and like after projection on the propeller shaft. Specification 315,119, [Class 114, Ships &c.
