340,366. Metal working presses. HOOVEN, OWENS, RENTSCHLER CO., Hamilton, Ohio, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Byerlein, A. A. ; 8316, Woodward Avenue, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A.) Nov. 7, 1929, No. 33963. Convention date, Nov. 8, 1928. [Class 83 (iv).] The bed 25 of a sheet metal &c. press with die holding slide 15 is adjusted to the desired height by nut and screw 28 at each corner and driven from an electric motor 33 through bevel &c. gearing the bed then being locked in position by fluid operated band brakes 37 on each nut 28 to prevent them from giving, or turning on the power stroke and also by the wedging action of gibs 63, 64 to lock by fluid pressure the bed 25 against the sloped surface 62, Fig. 4, of the frame upright 11, this relieving the thread of the screws 28 of the pressing stress, the latter locking action being as described in Specification 312,640, [Class 83 (iv), Metals, Working]. A single hand controlled valve 55 supplies fluid to master cylinders 45 and 73 each of which by virtue of a smaller plunger e.g. 47 supplies higher pressure fluid to the band brakes and locking arrangements respectively.
