Abstract

Opening tops. - In a passenger vehicle having a sliding panel in the roof, the panel can be locked in any position by means of bars moving with a simple parallel motion to grip the edges of the panel along its whole length. On the two sides of the movable panel 7 are mounted strips 9, Fig. 3, resting on fixed rails 10. By moving a hand-lever 11, Fig. 6, held in the locked position inside the vehicle by a single gate change and pivoted at one end 14 to a fixed angle-bar 12, the clamping-strip 16 is moved vertically by links 13 to force the strip 9 against the rail 10. A rubber jointing strip 20 is attached to a, fixed side-piece 18 and the strip 21 protects the exposed portion of the locking- gear. Any water leakage at the joint 20 is carried through holes 23 to a gutter surrounding the vehicle body. The transverse edges of the movable panel are provided with rubber jointing strips along their whole length which in the closed position bear against fixed members on the roof to form air-tight and waler-tight joints.
