Control mechanism:-In rotary grip Bowden &c. control devices for actuating brakes &c. on motorcycles &c., of the kind provided with independent controlling means for an additional Bowden or like transmission device, such supplementary controlling means comprises a slidable member adapted to be actuated directly by thumb or finger and to be retained in positions of setting by positive or frictional engagement with its guide member or housing. The carrying means 1 for the supplementary actuating device is integral with or secured to the fixed clamping member 2 at one end of the twist grip member 3. In one form, Fig. 1, the actuating member 4 slides between flanges 16 on the supporting plate or bracket 1 and transmits a thrust to the casing or outer member 8 of the Bowden mechanism when pressure is applied to its head 6, the cable or inner member 9 being anchored to a fixed stud 10. Under pressure of a spring 14, the toothed edge 12 of the member 4 engages a fixed tooth or projection 13 to maintain positions of adjustment; this arrangement of teeth may be reversed. A cover plate 17 is provided. In a modification, Fig. 4, the actuating member 4 slides in a casing 1 the upper portion of which is substantially cylindrical to allow entry of the Bowden casing or outer member 8 as the slidable member is retracted, the Bowden cable being anchored in the remote end 11 of the casing. In a further modification, Fig. 8, the fixed casing 1 is tubular and is clamped in a split seating formed on the twist grip clamping ring 2. The slidable member 4 is of semi-circular cross section with an end abutment 18a forming the seating for the Bowden casing, the cable being anchored by its nipple 11 in the fixed casing 1. A spring 20 promotes friction to retain the parts in positions of adjustment. Specifications 248,435, 293,501 and 326,159 are referred to.
