Abstract

Combined chain and toothed-wheel gearing.- In gearing of the. type adapted to increase the speed of a bicycle for the same rate of pedalling, the drive is transmitted from the shaft E of the pedal cranks K, L by a spur wheel A to a spur wheel I fixed to a shaft H, and thence by a wheel J to a wheel B, which is loosely mounted on the shaft E and is fixed to the usual sprocket wheel D by which the drive is transmitted to the rear wheel by a chain. The shaft H is mounted in two horizontal plates F, G bolted to the two frame members C diverging from the crank bracket.
