Abstract

239,424. Bastian, W. Jan. 19, 1925. Tandems.-An ordinary bicycle is converted into a tandem by means of a readily detachable fork 25 and rod 27 carrying a second saddle 28, the back axle being provided with a second pair of cranks 20, power from which is transmitted by a chain 22 to the usual crank axle, which is connected in the usual way by a chain 5 to a sprocket-wheel on the rear hub. The back axle is mounted in ball bearings carried by plates 11, which are detachably secured to the rear fork ends by bolts engaging slots and are displaced by means of screws 15 to adjust the tension of the chains. A back-pedalling brake may be combined with the rear hub. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 24375/94 and 170,276.
