Abstract

315,601. Caunt, H. Aug. 17, 1928. Four - stroke - cycle engines. - In a multicylinder engine the crank case is divided into compartments one for each cylinder; an air manifold 17 runs the length of the crank case and inlet valves 18 are provided for each compartment. The valve pertaining to any one cylinder is held open 'during the normal exhaust, suction and compression strokes; during the power stroke the valve 18 shuts and air is compressed in the crank case being admitted to the cylinder for scavenging purposes through terminal ports 23.
