Abstract

311,785. MacIlwaine, G. W., and Rosling, G. T. Feb. 17, 1928. Separating by mechanical pickers.-Apparatus for separating the shells and kernels of cracked nuts comprises two rollers 5, 6 with spikes 13, 14, preferably wedge-shaped, arranged in breakjoint order, and adapted to impale the kernels and break up large pieces of shell. Strippers 27, 28 arranged tangentially to the rollers remove the kernels from the spikes and deliver them to the receptacles 29, 30. The shells fall through into the receptacle 31. The relative position of the rollers is adjusted by a movable bearing for the shaft 8 of one. The mixture of shells and kernels is fed from a hopper 15 by a fluted roller 16 cooperating with a hinged plate 17 pressed into contact with the roller by a light spring 18.
