Abstract

318,043. Hartley, W. T. D., Turnbull, F. G., and Brierley, Collier & Hartley, Ltd., W. Oct. 29, 1928. Essential oils, extracting.-A device for use in connection with machines for shredding and chipping orange or lemon peel and the like, in which the coloured rind is separated from the pith by a dividing knife, provides means by which the volatile oil is expressed from the rind, gathered, and removed and directed into a drainage trough leading to a collecting receptacle, for subsequent, use in the manufacture of marmalade. The feed rollers a, a<1> are grooved and the peel, after separation from the pith by a knife b, is squeezed between the roller a<1> and the angle bracket b', the oil thus expressed being carried off on the feed roller. The oil is gathered by the gathering roller f, which may be geared to the feed roller a', and is scraped off by the scraper i and directed into the trough which leads it into the drainage channel k. The gathering roller f may be lifted and turned back on its radius arm f<1>. Specification 246,069, [Class 5 (i), Farmyard &c. appliances], is referred to.
