Abstract

310,676. Farrington, F. C., and Nasmith, F. May 19, 1928. Skein-holders and swifts.-To promote free rotation a skein-holder or swift particularly for use with delicate yarns is provided with two roller or ball-bearings, one at each end of its hub, arranged so as to support its weight on the swift-mounting. The inner race 15 of a ballbearing is secured by a screw 14, Fig. 1, to a cylindrical extension of the hub 10, the outer race 16 being received in the swift-mounting. In a modification, the cylindrical extension and protecting cap 13 are omitted and the bearings are partially housed in recesses 20, Fig. 3. In a form having a central spindle 18, Fig. 2, non- rotatably secured by flattened ends 19 in the swift support, the bearings are completely sunk in recesses 17 the inner race 15 being secured on the spindle 18. The end portion and cap 13 may be omitted, Fig. 4, a dust-excluding flange 21 being formed on the outer race 16.
