[Class 12 (i)] [Also in Group XV] A bearing for a wheel hub assembly for miniature gauge model railway rolling stock comprises a fixed axle member adapted to engage with the framework of the rolling stock, a pair of wheel hubs mounted upon the fixed axle member and separated by an intermediate spacing axle member and a group of bearing balls positioned adjacent each end of the wheel assembly, each group engaging a surface of the wheel assembly and a surface of the fixed axle member. A pair of wheels 10, Fig. 1, are assembled on a tubular spacing axle member 11 through which extends a fixed axle member 12. The rod 12 extends sufficiently to form annular bearing surfaces about which are arranged bearing balls 13 within recesses 14 formed in the outer surface of the wheel. Sleeve-like members 15 may hold the balls in the recesses, and in this case, Fig. 1, are themselves fixed to the ends of the fixed axle member 12, being held within boxes or brackets 17 which are part of the external framework. The bearing balls may be held by plates fixed or screwed to the wheels, in which case the sleeve members may be dispensed with, Fig. 2. The intermediate spacing axle member may be formed with cup-like flanges at its ends, Figs. 3 and 4, or it may be integral with the wheels, Figs. 2 and 8. The fixed axle member may be replaced by stub axles attached to the framework, Figs. 7 and 8, or the stub axles may be formed with cup-like ends, the balls being retained between the cup and the spacing member, Fig. 9. Alternatively, the fixed axle member may be a hollow tube 52, Fig. 10, formed with cup-like ends 53, the bearing balls 54 resting between the cups and the hub portions 55 formed on the wheels 50. The member 52 is attached rigidly to the arms 58 of the bracket 57. Modifications are described in which the balls run directly on the axle rod, the fixed axle member becomes hollow cups on the depending arms of the bracket, and cupshaped members are attached to the wheels to retain the bearing balls.
