Abstract

337,948. Rowbotham & Co., Ltd., T., and Jones, W. H. Oct. 24, 1929. Hubs.-A circular recess 10 of larger diameter than the hub hole 7 is provided in a wheel hub 6 and accommodates a pair of semi-annular keepers 3, 4 which engage a peripheral groove 2 in the outer end of the wheel axle 1 and are locked against rotation relative to the hub by a segmental key 14 engaging a flat 5 on the keeper 3. A roller cage 8 with rollers 9 is held inside the hub and the keepers are retained in position by a hub cap 19 screwing flush into the outer end of the hub. A collar 24 is shrunk on to the axle 1 to take the thrust of the axle supporting pedestal bracket, and co-operates with a felt packing ring 25 to prevent the escape of lubricant. Lubricant may be applied through the hole 22, and the keepers 3, 4 have holes 12 through them for the passage of lubricant.
