Direct air-pressure apparatus; automatic; vacuum apparatus.-Apparatus for raising liquids &c. comprises a chamber a provided with inlet and outlet valves g, e for the liquid, and connected by a pipe t to a pump o which creates a vacuum in the chamber. When the liquid overflows into an inner chamber h it lifts a float i and opens an air inlet valve c to break the vacuum and allow the liquid to discharge by gravity. During the discharge, a float n opens a valve in the chamber h and allows the liquid therein to discharge, so that the float i falls and closes the air valve. The degree of vacuum may be adjusted by means of a perforated tube s in the discharge reservoir p of the pump o, connected to the pipe t by a by-pass r provided with a regulating valve u. In another form, the outlet port g of the pump is connected to the air inlet c, so that discharge is effected by compressed air, and a valve actuated by the float i controls the suction port v.
