Abstract

304,445. Guy, H. L., and Metropolitan- Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd. Dec. 28, 1927. Casings.-In a turbine for use with high pressure steam, the supply or exhaust pipes in which substantially similar temperatures and pressures occur, are similarly shaped and symmetrically arranged on opposite sides of a plane containing the longitudinal axis of the turbine in order to secure a balance of the external forces exerted by the piping upon the casing. Fig. 1 shows an arrangement in which the four similar supply pipes 2, 3, 4, 5 of a turbine 1 are so arranged. They are fed from a steam chest 8, and distributing boxes 6, 7. The chest and boxes may be free to move. A symmetrical arrangement of exhaust pipes is also described.
