639,311. Elastic fluid turbines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 26, 1948, No. 14227. Convention date, May 29, 1947. [Class 110(iii)] In a turbine having, at least, high-pressure, intermediate and low-pressure cylinders. 1, 2, 3, the high and low-pressure cylinders are adjacent and the only thrust bearing 5 is between them. The intermediate pressure cylinder 2 and the generator 4 are beyond the low-pressure cylinder and all the shafts are coupled without relative axial freedom. The fluid flows through the high and intermediate-pressure cylinders are in directions away from the thrust bearing. The low-pressure turbine may comprise one or two cylinders of the double flow type, or, one such cylinder in parallel with a low-pressure stage constructed with the intermediate pressure stage.
