Abstract

Centrifugal governors; transmitting- mechanism.-The energy supply to a series-wound electric motor used in cash registers or other calculating devices, or to any other motor, is interrupted at excessive speeds and restored when the speed falls to normal. The armature shaft 32 is mounted in bearings 30, 31 and has secured thereto a disc 35 carrying two weighted arms 36, 37 pivoted at 350 and connected by a spring 38. The disc and arms rotate in a shell 39 which has slots 390 engaging stationary studs 40, 41 to permit angular motion. A link 42, Figs. 1, 3, connects the shell 39 to an arm 43 of a control switch pivoted at 44. The arm 43 carries a block of insulation 45 which engages and raises a spring-switch contact 46 to interrupt the motor-energy supply against the pull of an adjustable spring 47. The arms 36, 37 carry friction shoes 50, 51 which at excess speed engage and rotate the shell 39. Increasing or decreasing the tension of the spring 47 increases or decreases the speed limit of the shaft 32. The switch 46, Fig. 4, is shown associated with a switch 55, 56 controlled by the operation of the machine. A condenser 57 is provided to reduce the liability to sparking when the switch points are disengaged.
