Abstract
699,124. Centrifugal switches. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. May 8, 1951 [May 26, 1950 ; May 26, 1950], No. 10818/51. Class 38 (v) A centrifugal switch comprises a leaf spring 41 secured intermediate its ends to a shaft 16 and having its arms extending at an acute angle to the axis, weights 43 being mounted on curled ends of the arms. A shaft 14 drives a part 18 of shaft 16 having a part 17 operating a speedometer (not shown). The spring 41 is secured to shaft 16 at 42 for rotation therewith. A rigid member 44 mounted on the.shaped ends of a sleeve 39 has arms inclined to the shaft and engaging between flanges on weights 43, so that member 44 and sleeve 39 are also rotated. Sleeve 39 has a cam portion 40 co-operable with legs 36, 37 of a pivoted, U-shaped member 35, the leg 37 being cranked at 38 so as normally to co-operate with cam 40 which is urged to the left, Fig. 2, by a spring 47. As the speed of shaft 16 increases, weights 43 flex the spring 41 which pushes member 44 together with sleeve 39 axially to the right, Fig. 2, until cam 40 comes opposite leg 36 which is thus forced to the left, Fig. 4. This carries over-centre a spring 33, connected between leg 36 and the cross-piece of a U-shaped contact 29 pivoted at 34, thereby closing contacts 24, 29. When the speed decreases, sleeve 39 moves back to its normal position and cam 40 engages leg 37 to re-open the contacts.
