Abstract
475,968. Automatic control systems ; centrifugal switches. GRIFFITH, R. G. June 4, 1936, No. 15655. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVII] Speed.-In a centrifugal speed regulator comprising a disc 4 secured on the shaft of the motor to be controlled, an arm 1, carrying a contact 9 co-operating with a fixed contact 10 on the disc, is pivotally mounted on the disc by means of a resilient member 2 and is so arranged and constructed that the line of action of the resultant of the forces produced thereon by acceleration or deceleration of the disc passes approximately through the axis P about which the arm 1 turns. The contacts 9, 10 are connected to slip rings in the motor circuit and are opened and closed under the influence of the spring 6 and of the centrifugal force on the arm 1. Outward movement of the arm 1 is limited by the stop 16, and the contacts 9 and 10 are adjustable.
