Cores for cables.-A hollow conductor for use in the transmission of power at high voltages is built up of twisted or untwisted wires a having the forms shown in Figs. 1, 3 and 4. The wires a are held in position by a flat ribbon b wound round them in a large pitched spiral. The assembled conductor may be drawn, or rolled to press the ribbon b into the conductor surface. In a modified construction, the wires a are formed of convex-concave cross-sectional outline, being drawn, after assembly, through a drawplate so that the wires project into one another. The external ribbon b may then be wound.
