Mine props.-A telescoping pit prop is formed in two metal parts, the lower a being of sectionbar having a transverse member f at its upper end and the upper b a double-web section-bar provided with an open end and slots g in the webs so that it can slide over and embrace the web of the lower member. In the form shown, the transverse member comprises a bolt f provided with packing h on each side tn increase the resistance to sliding. A lower guide-bolt k may also be provided and this may have packing to increase the resistance to slip. In a modification, the sliding members 2, 3 are of circular section, the upper member being provided with flattened surfaces 5 at the slots against which the packing h abuts, and washers may be provided to prevent the packing from entering the slots.
