Description

WINDOW SASH WEIGHT. APPLICA'HON FILED JAN. 10, $921.
Patented Aug. 15, 1922.
CL/S'ck nea'der ATTORNEY To all wiwm it may concern:
WINDOW-SASH WEIGHT.
Application filed January 10, 1921; Serial No. 436,193.
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN L.
SCHNEIDER, a citizen of the United States,
residing at Davenport, in the county of Scott and State of Iowa, have invented new and usefulImprovements in vlfinclowfiasli Weights, of which the following is a specification. This invention relates to window-sash weights and an object of the invention is to provide a window-sash weight which is sub stantially rectangular in shape in cross section 7 and constructed so that only two weights need be used in a window structure comprising upper and lower sliding panels. Another object'of the invention is to pro-. vide a window-sash weight, the weight of which may be varied as of the window sashes required the said Iweight being pro vided with recess openingsat the inner upper end of the weight adapted to receive re- I movable lugs.
A further object of the invention is to provide a hook portion on the further end of the weight to which auxiliary weight may be detachably connected when required.
Other objects of the inventionwill appear 1 in the following detailed description and accompanying drawings wherein :Y
Fig. 1 is a side elevation, partly insec tion of the improved window-sash weight,
Fig. 2 is an edge elevation, partly in section of the improved window-sash weight.
Fig. 3 is a cross section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly tothe drawing, the improved sash weight is preferably cast of suitable material, the body 1 thereof 7 is provided with a pair of arms 2 and 3 upon its upper end, wliich arms carry a suitable pin {1- upon which a pulley 5 is.=rotatably mounted, the said pulley, preferably, having concave perimeter for receiving the sash cord and preventing the latter from slipping off the edge of the pulley and binding. The
body 1 is provided with a longitudinally extending central recess 6 rectangularin cross section, which opens out in the upper end of the body as shown at 7, the arms 2 and 3 being slightly reduced in thickness for short distances above the open end 7 to permit the passing of weights or lugs Stherethrough for depositing in the recess 6 to increase the weight of the body one when necessary. Of ten it is necessary to increase the weight of the sash-weight over that permitted by use of the slugs 8 and to allow this increasing of weight a ho'ok9 is formed uponthe lower end of the body 1, the recess in said hook opening outupwardly ina pocket 10, prefer-- ably at the longitudinal center of the body 1 Specification of Letters ?atent. Patented A 0; 15
as clearly shown in Fig. 2' of the drawing.
Two of these hook structures 9 areprovided I being formed upon the extension 11 'ofthe body 1 and, spaced as clearly shown i'nFig.
2' ofthe drawings to permit tlieiiisertion. therebetween of the upstanding lug 12 formed on the auxiliary weight 13.- The pin 14 extends transversely through the lug 12 and is provided for seating in the recess in the-hooks 9, as shownin Fig. 1 of the drawing to suspend the auxiliary weight 13 from The inner the lower ends of the hooks, to prevent acci dental removal of 'the endsof thepin 1 1 from the hooks. To disconnect the auxiliary weight 13 from the body 1 it isneesssary to move the auxiliary weight upwardly in.a di-,
rect vertical line until the pin 14 is-passe d above the upper ends of the bills 13 after of the pockets 10. v
which the weight 13 is moved laterally out is, of course, to be understood that. the nvention may be constructed in various other manners and the parts associated'in other relationsand, ltherefore, I do not de-. sire to be limited in any manner except as set forth in'the claim hereunto appended.
Having thus describedn y invention'what I claim is:
. v A indow sash weight comprising a rectangular body havinga hook arranged at its bottom end and parallelarin's extending;
from its other end and vfurtherhaving a. longitudinally centrallyv arranged r.ecess that'opens out atthe basefof saidarms,-and I a pulley mounted in theupper endsofthe arms so as to be spaced from the open end of said recess, and weights adapted to be passed under. the pulleys and deposited in the open; end of the recess.
ioo
. In testimony whereof I aifixmy signature.
