Abstract

Mine props are formed with a tubular main portion a having a wood filling f and a sleeve b secured to its upper end adapted to receive a sliding metal socket c adjustable by means of a cross-wedge d passing through opposed apertures in the sleeve. The lower end of the socket portion and upper end of the main prop portion may be provided with abutment plates i, g, respectively, or the ends of these portions may be closed by diaphragms to form abutment surfaces for the wedge.
