291,800. Steel & Tubes, Inc., (Assignees of Hallden, K. W.). June 10, 1927, [Convention date]. Shearing; straightening; shear-blades.-In a machine for cutting a continuously fed wire &c. into lengths, the wire is fed through straightening rolls B and a rotary straightening device C, by rolls D, to a cutter mechanism E which is actuated and traversed when the end of the wire lifts a stop 76 to throw in a one revolution clutch on a power shaft 32. The cutters are formed on bushes mounted on a carriage 42 reciprocated in the direction of feed by a cam 46 on the motor-driven power shaft 32, which carries also an eccentric 48 operating the reciprocating cutter 44. In operation the end of the wire slides through a trough 73 and lifts the adjustable stop 76 on a shaft 75 actuating the one revolution clutch on the shaft 32. The trough 73 is carried bv arms 69 on a shaft 63 rocked at each actuation of the cutter carriage to allow the severed length to drop into a framework 65 with handoperated pivoted side 68.
